I picked this up on discount and have been pleased. I needed a computer that would a) allow me to do some gaming (I am not a serious gamer -- mainly want to play with my kids), and b) help me with rendering video and speed up some work tasks relative to my work issued laptop with an 8th generation I5, 8GB of ram, and integrated graphics. On those fronts, this has been a great success. It runs Warframe and Red Dead Redemption II just fine. No, it isn't as effective as a more expensive laptop or gaming desktop, but it works. RDR looks pretty good on it. I don't know FPS, but on Warframe it sustains about 60 FPS most of the time. In terms of video rendering, it is much, much better than I was using for simple videos for work. I'm not doing anything very fancy in Premier Pro, but it does render my 10-20 minutes videos with a little bit of chromakey and other editing in HD pretty quickly, especially compared to my old laptop. Another nice thing about it is that it is not very flashy compared to many gaming laptops; it is much more subdued. When on battery using optimized settings, I also get pretty good battery life compared to my kids' gaming laptops. I happen to really like the keyboard. Compared to my HP Elitebook, I actually prefer this keyboard by a fair amount (I do a lot of typing for my work). It's also suitably thin and portable. Now for the negative. 1) No webcam. If you need it for zoom, you will need to use an external webcam. Thankfully I have one, but this is a definite downside in terms of ease of use. It also means no Windows Hello. 2) Because it is an AMD Ryzen chip, it does not meet Zoom's requirements for virtual backgrounds. This means I have to use a green screen if I want virtual backgrounds; I am using green screen for other video captures anyway, so this is just a minor annoyance. 3) The ports are pretty good, but I would like to see two USB-Cs rather than one. The other port issue is that the only monitor connection is 1 full size HDMI port. This works, but I would prefer to have the option of DVI or Display Port. One possible negative for some is that the screen is not 4K or color optimized. It works great for me for gaming, and I think it looks just fine for watching movies and work purposes. It is a nice matte screen, so I can work on it for hours with no fatigue.

When a computer is designed for video production or gaming, it has to have some serious hardware, and needs to be tuned for the tasks at hand. The Zephyrus GA502DU does not disappoint. Perhaps I'm not that familiar with the latest setups, but a laptop with TWO (selectable!) GPUs is impressive to me. Mate these with AMD's Ryzen 7, 16GB of RAM, and an SSD, and performance is what you get. I especially like how this "engine" is tunable with a nice interface, and unlike most Windows system-level adjustments (historically), does not require a reboot. It's also handy that the tuning interface can be accessed with a single key press. Like most things, all that performance comes with a price. The fans are noisy compared to my previous laptop-tablet "convertible" model, but this one was certainly not designed to be low-power, low-heat, etc. Performance generates heat, and that usually means that fans need to circulate air, but compared to older standard laptops, I really can't complain. The power supply is an average size, and oddly enough hasn't gotten very warm, but it still sucks far more power than my previous laptop. Fan settings can be set in the performance tuning screen, or cycled through from the keyboard. It has one of the new USB-C ports. I can appreciate the technology (I'm told it's super fast), but I don't have any devices that use it, so I will probably just use a converter cable. Built-in Bluetooth seems to be standard PC fare, which is handy, since there are so many high-end wireless headsets available. Nice for gaming. The backlit keyboard is nice, especially if you work in very low light. The brightness is adjustable from the keyboard, and can be turned off. (good if you are watching a video) I only have a few criticisms. First, the drive is only 500MB, where I expected any performance-oriented system to be equipped with 1 TB. Second, there's no webcam. Fortunately, I don't have any real uses for one, but a lot of gamers do, so I was surprised that one was not included. Finally, I like having a numeric keypad off to the right, and I think they could have squeezed one in. This wasn't a deal-breaker for me, as I use a full size wireless model. This is a mid-range gaming unit, so I expected it to have all the standard features. The three points above are the only reason I didn't give it five stars. This is by far the most expensive laptop I've ever owned, but it's worth it.

As with anything new, this product is starting off very responsive and I am impressed with the speed of the uploads and downloads. The graphics and audio cards far exceed my expectations for a laptop. It provides smoother cutscene transitions and booming sound quality when playing games or watching movies. I'll see how it performs after about 6 months, and edit the review, but for now, it's awesome!

The first gaming laptop I owned about six years ago was an ASUS ROG laptop which I loved and worked great for years without any issues. Over the past year I made the mistake of branching out to try two different makers (I won't mention any names) and had nothing but problems. That being said, I was excited when ASUS announced the new generation ROG Zephyrus GA502 with an AMD Ryzen 7 3750H processor, NVIDIA 1660 Ti Max-Q 6GB graphics card, 16GB of 2666Mhz DDR4 memory and a 512GB PCIe SSD; I couldn't wait to go back to the brand I know and relied on for years, and it doesn't disappoint with those specs. Out of the box, I immediately noticed how light and sleek the gaming laptop is, weighing slightly over 4 1/2 pounds, with a metallic chassis and subtle dim lit red ROG logo on the lid that doesn't scream, "LOOK AT ME, I'M A GAMER!". They slimmed down the back lit keyboard which also contributes to the sleek look. This is great for casual gamers or those looking for productivity with a little something extra on the side when you want to have some fun. After the initial charge, a quick boot up thanks to the SSD, several updates out of the box and downloading all my "stuff", it was up and running smoothly. Although it's not the best or brightest one I've seen, the 15.6" HD 120Hz LED display looked great. I was pleasantly surprised at how clean and crisp the sound was with little to no distortion when turned all the way up. Given the latest specs, multitasking was a breeze. This is the first time I have used an AMD processor and I have been pleased thus far. AAA games ran beautifully while plugged in and on battery power. The battery provided about six to eight hours of standby or casual use, around three to four hours for streaming movies and around two hours for hard core gaming which all depends on your configuration. ASUS has preloaded software that you can use to customize and balance your performance, battery life, etc. which looks complicated but it's actually fairly easy to use. It has the standard ports you would see on most current laptops, which is never enough when I have many peripherals plugged in, and includes a USB-C which you could use as a display port for a VR headset. The lack of a webcam didn't bother me, and I actually prefer not to have one; not only does it help slim down the bezel but I feel more comfortable without one. You can always pick one up for a reasonable price if that's a concern but I wouldn't let it deter you from considering this laptop. Gamers should know by now good fans are a must in gaming laptops so I hate it when I hear complaints about the noise they make. Yes, there are fans for a reason and they make noise. This laptop's fans are quieter than the previous two laptops I owned and do a decent job of displacing heat. It was easy to open up for upgrade purposes and has an extra PCIe SSD port if you wish to upgrade the memory (see pics). Overall, I would say this laptop is a great balance with decent specs and a competitive price point. I would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone on the market for one that I expect would last for years given my previous experience and now I know, as the saying goes, the grass isn't greener. Thank you ASUS for creating another great product.

While this certainly is a budget gaming laptop at under $1000, the specs and performance are much better than suggested. Although, the Ryzen 7 CPU is not desktop caliber. It still has plenty of punch for nearly every task or game. It also has dual graphics. An igp for basic tasks and the dedicated GTX 1660 Ti for heavy demands. It is also very thin and extremely portable. Great for on-the-go. Much like other gaming laptops, performance is best when the charger is plugged in. It runs at slower clock speeds on battery for better battery life. But the power settings can be changed to suit your needs. Asus is a well respected brand. Especially for gaming. I would highly recommend this laptop. I am an IT professional with nearly 15 years experience.

    Portable Gaming Powerhouse

This PC is quickly becoming a favorite in my house! The combination of AMD's RYZEN 7 processor and NVIDIA's GeForce 1660 Max Q dedicated graphics card result in an exceptional system that offers portability, power, awesome battery life and value, perfect for work and play! The AMD RYZEN 7 processor is powerful and energy efficient! This system exceeded my expectations in each benchmark test performed, coming in just a bit shy of a 4k gaming system, but well above a typical gaming laptop. Powerful GPU and VR ready (Steam / HTC VIVE). Smooth and responsive graphics, very little (if any) lag was experienced when I tested the integrated graphics. The dedicated NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Ti Max-Q graphics card had no issues at all, VR playback was smooth and fluid. Under strenuous graphics testing, the system remained relativity cool and comfortable while resting on my lap. The power supply did heat up a bit more than I expected, but not hot enough to become a concern. I noticed that the during extreme load with the fan running at maximum, this system remained pretty quiet (on par with a small desk fan). Smooth typing experience: I'm pretty picky when it comes to keyboards and this one passes the test. The keys are smooth and responsive although they feel a bit shallow and could have used a bit more depth for my liking, but that is the price you pay for thin. The keys are white back-lit with no RGB customization, but honestly I prefer this configuration as it is less distracting than the full color keyboards. The arrow keys are a bit small for my liking, but they are well placed and easily accessed. Lightweight and portable at less than 5 lbs it is hardly noticeable and very comfortable to hold directly on your lap during long gaming sessions. Display has a wide viewing angle with little to no glare even in bright lighting conditions. Excellent battery life... Roughly 1 hr while gaming, 5-10 hrs with moderate to light usage. Overall this is a nice system and I would recommend to anyone looking for a light, powerful, and portable gaming pc that can easily handle anything you throw at it.

This is a nice piece of kit. It's solid and well built device, metal lid and plastic body (but still well made and durable); the fit and finish is one of something more premium than the price point this sells for. The CPU and GPU are a good combo for gaming. Most 2018/19 titles run at high at 1080p and stay above 60FPS. I was able to achieve a consistent 100+ on Overwatch, even in online firefights. The fans get LOUD. at full speed, it sounds like a jet; which can drown out the speakers and some headsets. Temps don't get terribly high as a result. Access to the internals is pretty easy; only requiring a Phillips head screwdriver and a moderate amount of finesse. It has 2 NVME x2 slots (so, half the rated speed on those drives) and a single RAM slot with an 8GB DDR4 2666 slot in it. While I dislike that 8GB is soldered on and that the NVME slots are x2, they aren't dealbreakers. If you can get this on sale for under the MSRP, it's worth it.

Id like to start out by saying i love this laptop but it does come with its problems. Overall: This laptop is one of a kind with its multi use for a gaming machine and on the go day to day use. I usually get around 5 to 6 hrs in battery saving mode which you wont be able to play games in fair warning bring your charger if you plan to play them. There might be better price to performance laptops out there but none that have the battery life or sleek look this one has to offer. For me the Pros out weigh the cons but it may not be for every gamer out there. All in all a good mid range gaming rig for on the go. Pros: Minimal Bloatware,Great specs, good cooling, great keyboard, and above average build quality for its price point. Very portable and doesn't have that tacky gamer look to it. Great deal when priced around $900-1000 on sale. ( using student discounts ect..) Cons:ITS A FINGERPRINT MAGNET! the wifi card isn't the best and the processor people compare it to(i5 8300h) is better but the ryzen 7 does have better power utilization allowing for a longer battery life so that may be a pro to people like students or people who travel frequently. The fans get quite noisy but if you have decent headphones you wont notice them. The Screen maybe an ips and 120 hz but the color accuracy isn't very good and you will notice some ghosting if you are use to faster refresh rate panels, either way it is still a step up from 60hz so i think most people will be happy with it for gaming. That being said the brightness is pretty low and can be a bit troubling in naturally lit rooms or outside. I wouldn't suggest you buy this laptop as a desktop replacement or if you do video editing or any thing heavily relying on a good image quality. It is for people who need a notebook and still want to be able to play AAA titles on the go. Also balancing out the battery saving options (auto using the amd graphics over the 1660ti) can be a bit bothersome to people and if you don't like tweaking all of that you can just set the main display to use the nvidia card through the nvidia control panel, me a while to figure out.

A fairly powerful gaming laptop at good price. I picked this up on sale when it was $300 off list price. Like other reviews the fans can be a little noisy under heavy loads. But I knew that from other reviews. The battery life is decent under light loads. But once you start gaming you will want to be near an outlet. No web cam or sd card slot though. The web cam is no big deal to me though. I found a nice usb-c card reader to help with the lack of sd card reader.

Picked this up 3 weeks ago on sale and haven't regretted it for an instant. Plays current AAA titles (FO76, Division 2) at 1920x1080 with a mix of high and ultra settings even without "Turbo" mode on; fast SSD (could be a little larger but I keep all but my current favorite on an external drive anyway). Good sound, nice full range. Hardware mute button. Screen not particularly vibrant (push brightness a little) but no deficiencies either. No dead pixels. Really fine GPU/CPU management software with a dedicated hardware button for changing modes; chips cool right down (literally seconds) after long play sessions. Effective airflow through unit. **No RGB onboard** but will drive RGB peripherals. AMD so no Thunderbolt. **No onboard webcam.** Nice weight, solid build, I don't *love* the keyboard but that always takes getting used to on a new machine. Nice large sensitive trackpad. Strikes me as an instant classic; was exactly what I wanted at the price.

I don't do a lot of gaming but I tried some out because its one of the best ways to shake down equipment like this and see how it will handle. It handled great on the couple of games I tried out. I'm not a gaming expert so refer to others. But I did purchase this laptop to do some modeling in Fushion 360 and other CAD related software. It has handled 3d modeling well and I would recommend it to anyone that is looking for a desktop like performance laptop with the ability to move around if you need to. My space is limited and I don't have a dedicated office space anymore so mobility was a requirement. I purchased this as an open box item though and the only real complaint I have is that 2 of the case screws are missing from the bottom. That concerned me so much that I almost returned it. At first the computer was only running on the intergrated graphics and wasn't even picking up the 1660ti. I wasn't sure if someone had tinkered with some of the hardware and then returned it and it was missed by Best Buy upon return. I was able to change some settings in windows that allowed the GPU to take over when it needed too though. I am still concerned that if I ever have a warranty issue or something that they'll see the case screws missing and claim I voided the warranty. So Best Buy if you're looking at this I highly recommend a more vigilant eye on returned products that you plan to sell as open box. Otherwise the computer arrived in great condition with all parts (except two case screws mentioned)

I bought this as a student who spends a lot of time on campus and wants to game during downtime. I wanted a gaming laptop that wasn't obscenely bulky/heavy and didn't scream GAMER when I pulled it out of my bag. After a bunch of research and a little over a month with it, I can truly say I feel like I got the best bang for my buck in the GA502DU. At under 5lbs (without power brick) this thing is not at all difficult to carry around campus. It's certainly not MacBook, Surface Laptop, or Dell XPS light, but for a gaming laptop I don't think there are much better options if you want portability AND gaming performance. Fans, keyboard, and trackpad are near silent in light use like office/school work and net browsing. Keyboard is sturdy and has great travel, making sure you feel each stroke when you type. Trackpad is a bit of an oil magnet but is super smooth and quiet. The battery life is phenomenal, getting more than 10 hours under light use and with the screen brightness turned down a bit. Gaming is the only place I experienced a hiccup, but once I solved the issue everything was fine. When I first got the laptop I noticed that after just a few minutes in a game framerates would drop like a rock and would not recover. After some digging I found that the CPU was throttling down to a paltry 0.4 GHz. This was a result of the laptop running on its "Silent" power profile, which maximizes noise reduction by underpowering the CPU. The only way to change this profile is by downloading Asus's ROG Armory Crate and going through a fairly lengthy process to install it. Once you have it, though, you can change the power profile to "Balanced" or "Turbo", which will not underpower the CPU and ensures that games will run fine. While I think the Armory Crate should be pre-installed on the laptop if it's necessary to run games well (there's even a button specifically to open the app up on the keyboard), the fact that the problem is easily fixed keeps me from feeling like even a single star needs to be removed from the review, especially given the rest of the experience. After all, the laptop DOES work as intended--there are just a couple extra steps to help it do so. As for the gaming experience once everything is working, the only thing to point out is that the fans sound like a jet engine, but this is to be expected for any gaming laptop, especially something so thin. If you have the volume cranked on the hefty speakers or are using headphones, you won't notice anyway. I can easily max settings in most games and clear 60fps no problem. Especially if you can nab this on a good sale, I highly recommend this gaming laptop.

I really, really, wanted to love this laptop. I had been looking for a laptop for forever, I wanted something that could game but could also do normal school work as well. It has a great minimalist look, and the performance is quite good, especially for the weight and thinness and design of the laptop at this price point. Now it's not in best class, but it isn't a jack of all trades either. The screen lacks color and the fans are rather loud during load. But that's not even the main problem with the fans, the problem is they have a high pitched noise to them sometimes. This might be coil whine and it probably is. It is very noticeable when you are doing everything but gaming when the fans are under heavy load. During gaming you won't notice it, but reading an article or anything where the fans are near silent will result in this noise being audible. Also I wish they would get rid of the childish red light up logo on the back, they took a step in the right direction in my opinion when they didn't put an RGB keyboard in, which also brings me to the fact that the keyboard lighting is not bright at all. Now, I didn't experience terrible wifi speeds like everybody else was, I was getting 30MB/s+ with this laptop which is on par with all my other devices. The screen was a bit washed out and definitely could've done with better colors. There are still great things about this laptop! It's thin and light, it's a (mostly) great design with nice thin bezels. It's got a fast 120hz display and the specs are decent for the price. It's not too over the top gamer and you can do real work if you can overlook the coil whine. I only hear it sometimes, but when I do start hearing it, it becomes very annoying. Thankfully I have noticed it within my return period so I am still able to return it. The battery is a pro for this laptop though with decent battery life better than most gaming laptops out there. But I did have a problem with some of Asus' proprietary software, for example, 2 apps I installed from armory crate would never open for whatever reason. I also had to do multiple clean boots to figure out why there was a loading circle next to my pointer all the time for no apparent reason, even when I closed all my apps. Eventually I figured out it was some type of 'Myasus' software that was supposed to open on startup but it never did so I had to disable it. DO NOT BUY THIS LAPTOP FOR $1200. I was able to get this for $900 before tax because there was a $200 off sale plus another $100 off for students. For $900 this is a great laptop for most gamers out there, for $1000 its still decent, but any higher than that and you'd be better off paying a bit more for a lenovo or settling for a Dell G3 or a acer nitro 5. In the end though, I was unfortunately disappointed with this laptop because of the cooling, coil whine, lackluster color display, and some of the software was disappointing as well. But if you can overlook those faults, this may be the laptop for you. I will grade this laptop on its $1200 starting price for the best buy 'break it down.' I will most likely be returning this laptop unless the coil whine magically stops within the next few days.

      Dear Khody12,

Thank you for your in depth review of your laptop. I'm sorry to hear that you are experiencing coil whine and having software issues with your computer, please accept my apologies. Coil whine is usually related to a component like the GPU or CPU being under a heavy load, so I'm surprised you hear it even when the computer is near silent with low fan speeds. Could you send me a video of that issue both when idle and when under load so I can help you troubleshoot further? Your keyboard backlighting can be adjusted by holding the function key and using the "Up" and "Down" arrows. Your backlighting issue might also be caused by the fact that Armoury Crate refuses to load, as it controls the RGB on your device. You can download Armoury Crate from the link here https://www.asus.com/Laptops/ROG-Zephyrus-G-GA502/HelpDesk_Download/. If none of these suggestions work for you, please reach out to me at [email protected] and include case #N190822245 in your review for reference. I would like to help you resolve this issue completely.

      Thank you for choosing ASUS!

I've been using this laptop for the last few months and it is amazing. It powers through any game that you toss at it. At this price point it is the most powerful laptop you're going to find for gaming, and it's very lightweight. Combine this with a lapdesk and you're set to game on the couch. Pros: The mobile processor somehow delivers Very light weight Super fast load times thanks to the SSD All of the memory you need for gaming Low keys looks that hide you have a very nice laptop Cons: They covered both bottom fans with a giant hunk of metal. Prone to overheat due to the giant hunks of metal. You will likely need to update the bios to get around heat issues. 8gb of the RAM is sodered in. The additional m.2 slot is not as fast. All things said this bad boy at this price is a beast. You'll void your warranty if you listen to me, but I would pop this open and immediately remove the giant metal blocking the bottom fans. They does not exist on the more expensive versions, and are likely there to prevent dust. Who cares, if you remove them your temps will cease to be an issue. Same with the bios. Those covers plus the bios turn this into an entirely different model altogether that should not be at this price point. I'd say that they tried to nerf this model so it didn't prevent you from bumping up to a more expensive laptop. The only game this seems to have any issues at all with would be FrostPunk. It will still play it but there is some type of issue and it will stutter terribly during the intro. I've tried many things but to no avail. I don't blame the laptop as it will glide through GTA V at high settings with micro stutters only in the most known trouble areas.

Okay I've purchased this GA502 and love it. RGB none, I dont care. Display is nice with barely any bezels. no camera and thats great. Design is A+. Sound is A+. Performance is A+. Finally, Battery is phenomenal for a machine with this type of gaming profile A+++. This laptop is built mostly of plastic, but it feels nice and done right. Also, the charger doesn't weigh a ton and if u have a spare type c, it can charge from it as well. This Amd cpu powered laptop delivers great in every category overall. The only laptop i think with better battery life/comparable would be XPS 15, and thats incredible to be in that class in itself. great laptop, go buy one while its on sale.

I love that this laptop is well priced for what specs it has. Pros: fast storage (fast boot up times) great gpu, ram, display. Metal chassis, very durable. Nice touch with the dim led logo. Great audio, above average laptop speakers. It has a good weight, not too heavy. Cons: not much storage(upgradable tho) Cpu struggles a bit in some cpu demanding games like overwatch and GTA 5. scored 1700 in cinebench so I believe it’s decent for productivity tasks. Not very bright display. No camera(could be good or bad) personally I use my phone when it comes to face calls. Keyboard takes a bit of pressure to type. Very firm, has 2 FN Buttons, small arrow keys. White leds(no RGB) Overall great laptop for 1000 (on sale) and great for school too.

I was looking for a full size keyboard laptop that I could use both for work as well as gaming on the side. I decided to go with the Asus laptop as I have always loved their hardware. I was impressed with the battery management, fast charging and screen clarity it has. Overall this laptop will be used mostly for work and happy to see that all my steam AAA games run without any issues!!

Performance - 5 stars Display - 4 stars (docked one for dimness) Price - 5 stars (a steal at $899) Connectivity - 5 stars (so many ports!!) Battery life - 5 stars I can unplug this thing from the power cord, take it to the living room and plug it into the TV via HDMI, play Halo Reach in 4k at 30fps (or 1080p at 120fps) for two hours or more, and not have to worry about the battery dying or the computer overheating. For $900 this thing is an impressively capable and portable workhorse

I bought this laptop for when i travel and want to game on the go. It works flawlessly! I am very surprised on how capable this machine is. I have a very high end pc and i was nervous that this thing would feel awful compared to it. But it holds up just fine! I updated the ram to 24gb and added a 1tb nvme ssd. It was very easy to take apart and put back together. The 1660ti maxq holds up great to 1080p gaming and conquers anything i throw at it at high settings. I was also very surprised on how thin this laptop is. I was expecting something much thicker. The battery lasts for a good 8 hours when on silent mode and just browsing the net, YouTube, word, excel etc. on performance mode i get about 4 hours non gaming. You basically have to plug it in to game on it. The fans are very loud so i recommend using headphones while you play. I love the look of this thing but i don’t like that it collects fingerprints so easily. Make sure to have a microfiber cloth with you to wipe it off. The only thing i don’t like is the onboard speakers are absolute trash. My iPad Pro sounds better and louder than this thing. Like i said before, headphones are a must. Other than that, i highly recommend this laptop!

Very well designed laptop the sizes are perfect you can take it to anywhere its extremely light also runs most of the games in high settings smoothly. Speakers are very good. Fans are a little bit noisy but acceptable. Even if the screen is IPS the colours are not very accurate. I really liked the laptop HOWEVER I decided to format the laptop because there were a issue of lagging in the midde of online games the ping is jumping to 200-250 ( which is supposed to be 30-40) then decreaasing to normal level and its happenning in every 15-20 mins. After I formatted the laptop I really had difficulties to install them properly but I managed it but there are some applications which are not working like GAMEVISUAL and SONICSTUDIO a lot of people also commented about this issue on microsoft store. And the ping problem continues.
