So, I had the same question too. However, when you look at the specifications listed for the current model, it clearly says that the memory can be expanded upto 24 gb. So, I imagine, you can replace the 8 gb SODIMM with a 16 gb and combine that with the soldered 8 gb you'd end up with a total of 24 gb. The only way you could expand to a 32 gb system is, if the soldered ram is at 16 gb.
