• If you can actually find a ASUS VivoBook 17 X712DA-BR7N6 it may indeed have a back-lit keyboard and aluminium chassis LOL!!!! I've looked far and wide starting at the obvious place ASUS.com. I don't believe it exists. What we were all shipped is a ASUS VivoBook 17 M712DA.

• Has anyone received any relief for this deception? I absolutely hate the layout of this keyboard, and without the backlight it is impossible to use in the dark.

• New egg has that same model number X712DA-BR7N6 for $825.

• ASUS offered no support in this query because they stated that the X712DA has the backlit keyboard and metal case. The laptop I received said X712DA on the box AND it said M712DA in larger font above it. So, it's not clear what's going on with their manufacturing. Sorry!
