With att.com you have to purchase the card every 30 days to keep your number, and rollover your minutes. My wife has a Track phone that is good for 90 days, and carries over the minutes too! But not a data plan! Works for a phone plan with the phone working all the time!

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.As far as I know, once you buy the card it never expires. However, once you add it to the phone, that buys you one month of service. So you can keep both at your house for in the event that your landline is cut off. However, once you add the card to the phone, the ~30 day countdown starts ticking.
