Yes, this set can have a total of up to 12 handsets.

Yes, per the manual, page 95, you can have up to 12. The online instructions are more detailed, so you might want to download it. Personally, I wish I'd never bought it! Way to much crap on it and everything is complicated. Too many buttons to push when you want to add a phone, enter names in the address book (only can add 50), and now my cell phone rings when the landline rings. Tons of abbreviations, to long buttons to accomplish what you want, etc. used to delete messages with one button and now it takes several, etc.
