This is a Wi-Fi hotspot. It will give you internet access, but you need a supporting plan. These are supported by AT&T, so you will be on their network. The internet connection is by pre-pay, which boils down to buying blocks of data that will expire, or you use all the data and purchase more. Very similar to pay as you go phones, but it's not a phone, data only. To answer your question, then, no, it is not like either firestick or chrome. Those use a Wi-Fi connection, this one IS a Wi-Fi connection.
