• I personally feel that direct drive ia better. Belts wear out.

• It depends on the application. Generally speaking, you would not want a belt driven turntable for a heavy use application such as a DJ application where there could be a need for beat-matching, frequent back-cuing and/or scratching. For a Hi-Fi application where low noise is desired, a good belt drive design will often be lower in noise.
