This lock is installed onto your existing deadbolt and will still open with your current key from the outside. The lock is still able to be turned to lock and unlock by hand on the inside, so it would likely not be effective for preventing your daughter from escaping. Hope it helps, good luck.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.The outside of the lock stays the same. It's openable with your key or phone. The inside is the brains part which spins to open the lock. However this won't help with your daughter as the outer ring of the interior part can be spun to open the lock. If she never sees you opening it this way she may not realise you can but I wouldn't chance it. I would suggest a lock like the Yale nightlatch which is lockable from the inside and out

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.We too have a family member that's on the spectrum. I would recommend this lock. The lock can notify you when the lock is unlocked or locked. Although to answer your question specifically, the August lock changes the mechanism on the inside of the door and the outside stays the same. I personally think it would easier for daughter to use after she got familiar and used to the change. If you are concerned with security, my suggestion is to add a slide lock that you see in the movies that lets the door open just a little and is on a chain (we did and the setup works great). But that's only a suggestion.
