QuestionIf it automatically unlocks my door when I approach won't it keep unlocking my door when I am inside?

- Answer No, it knows when your home by your phones WiFi connection and the Bluetooth so it knows when you leave and remembers that, then when you return home it sees your Bluetooth reconnected and your phone also reconnected to your home Wi-Fi and let's you in, this all happenes as your approaching the door so by the time your reaching for the door knob its unlocked.

- Answer You can program many access codes for for all the people you know also restricting times and days to your preference and can delete any one code at any time to revolk access to anyone if you change your mind, if you buy the keypad you can even give a temporary code to someone without them having to download the August app, you can do all this remotely from anywhere (as long as you also have the august connect bridge device to hook it up to wifi) so if your at work and need to let someone in you can either remotely unlock you door from work or program them a pin to get in.

- Answer This is a new lock, and it is part of the 3rd generation of locks. Its only drawback is the lack of baked in HOMEKIT support.. To access the lock while away you will need the connect, or August Doorbell. As with the other 3rd gen it has door sense which works well except if the door is closed but not closed enough to have the bolt catch. I have two and like them a lot just wish it had Homekit as I'm tired of all of the required hubs with the Internet of things devices. I have the doorbell also with the expectation that it will gain Homekit soon. The lock pairs with the doorbell the door bell connects to wifi and gives you some control of the lock while away.

QuestionHow does this work with existing lock? Does it fit over? Do you take off door knob since it says for deadbolt? How do you measure to ensure it will fit?

- Answer It replaces the inside latch on your existing deadbolt, the keyed side and inner mechanism are not changed. This only works for a deadbolt, not a locking door knob. It takes up just a couple inches above your regular deadbolt latch, but there is sizing info on Augusts's website.

- Answer The door can still be opened manually with your key. All the smart lock does is give you a sense of security to be able to check if you locked the door, that is if you have the hub set up, on your phone. Aside from that, the August smart lock will warn you of low battery and it will not lock you out as long as you still have your house key with you to open the door.

- Answer As a stand alone device, probably not. You will need the companion Connect Wi-Fi bridge.

- Answer Locking and unlocking are 2 separate options. 1- Locking - You can set a timer once the door is closed from 1 min or more to lock automatically. - The lock will also detect your location and lock quicker if you leave from 200m away from your location. 2- Unlocking - It works but a little flaky, you can set auto unlocking on from the app, and it will detect your location and WiFi settings to unlock the door. It worked about 60% of the time for me.

- Answer If you currently have a deadbolt it will replace the inside portion of your deadbolt allowing you to use your current key. It runs off Bluetooth. If you don’t have a deadbolt it will not work.

- Answer Yes and no. To be able to use it with wifi you need the hub, But you can still use it without the hub. using the onboard Bluetooth. Which is great once you are connected since you can unlock the door and lock the door with the Bluetooth. Outside of the Bluetooth, you need the hub.

- Answer The need for the August hub is because the lock is set to communicate with the August hub via Bluetooth and until a smart things hub or other device becomes more universal with security and other protocols it cannot communicate with the lock
