You need a key to unlock a regular door don’t you? So your gunna need your phone or key to unlock this. How else would you expect to unlock it ?

The inside portion of the installation can be manually locked or unlocked by turning the outside ring of the mechanism. It’s kind of like turning a doorknob. So even if it stops responding all together, you still have a fallback from either side of the door.

This allows your door to lock itself without your key or phone.
