Q: QuestionCan this be installed under the hood?

• A:Answer This device is installed in the OBD II port of your vehicle. This is typically located on the interior of the vehicle under the dash, usually below the steering wheel or below the glove compartment. It's very small and discreet and most people don't even notice it's installed. If the OBD port is under the hood of your car, I would guess it's older than 1996. Autobrain is recommended only for 1996 and newer vehicles and probably wouldn't work properly. Also, the Autobrain User's Manual recommends the operating temperature not exceed 75 C and in the summer heat under hood temps can reach 82-93 C, so it would likely ruin the device if it's installed under the hood. If you don't want it to be at all visible you could also buy an OBD port replicator extension cable and install that with Autobrain under the dash to make it completely non-visable.

Q: QuestionThis device looks similar to Automatic device which I purchased at BestBuy a year ago. However, two months ago, I was informed that Automatic shut their doors due to Covid19 and now I have doorstops. Is this company stable enough to purchase these?

• A:Answer This works very different than the one from automatic. This requires a monthly fee so they should be around for awhile. That said, the automatic was better IMO for car issues and didn’t require a monthly fee.

• A:Answer The device is not powered up unless it is plugged in. Look under the left side of your steering wheel (where all the cables, wires, fuse box etc are at. You should see the little box plugged in very easily. If you can't see it and you're still unsure, you can go to AutoZone and ask them to check your car diagnostic port. They'll tell you in 5 seconds (or less) if this specific device is on there.
