“There seems to be a quiet hissing sound in the background when using these. Is this a defect or do other people experience the same thing? Any suggestions on how to eliminate or reduce the hissing sound?”

that hissing noise is part of the noise cancellation, you can double click the power button that would switch from noise cancellation to no hissing

CNET review of the Beats Studio 3 states they noticed a faint hissing sound in the background caused by the noise cancellation feature. See attached picture.

I noticed it when the noise canceling was off tho! And didn’t notice it when I had it on

That's the automatic noise cancellation feature. You do have the option of shutting if off.

That slight "hissing" is from the noise cancelling feature which every NC set has. You can turn it off by pressing twice on the power button. Hope this helps!
