No, N-600 means it's dual-band - it can operate on the 5 Ghz and 2.4 Ghz frequencies. It used to be that wireless networks all operated on 2.4 Ghz, but because alot of other electronics (ie home phones) can also operate on this frequency, you could get alot of interference, so some manufacturers switched to using 2.4 or 5 Ghz. Realististically, 5 Ghz actually has a shorter range due to the higher frequency (shorter wavelength = less distance when the router uses the same amount of power to broadcast) though there's less interference. You'd probably be better with the N300 over longer distances. Ie, my dual band router upstairs puts out 2.4 Ghz and 5 Ghz networks, but I only recieve the 2.4 Ghz upstairs and downstairs, though 5 Ghz works great upstairs.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The N600 adapter will give you faster connection speeds when using th 5ghz channel at a sacrifice of range. The 5ghz band also has a lower chance of interference meaning less coverage drops. The 2.4ghz band is the same for the N300 and N600 and has the same range. Regards, Belkin Support
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes the 600 is better than the 300; but I used the N600 and returned it because it was to large and heavy, and bent hanging out of my USB port. I would advise you to consider the Netgear N900. It is dual band and reaches farther (30 to 50 ft depending on the routers signal). The USB adapter sits into a sturdy stand and the adapter is a much more sturdy design. The stand for the adapter makes it easy to set anywhere. I like the fact that you don't have the adapter hanging from your USB And can be hard for your USB port, and is also often in the way while using the computer at a desk. The price difference is not much and you will have a great adapter.
