“Where can I buy cards for this? I'm trying to use this device to make my home computer more secure with it's access. I was wondering where you buy smart cards to use on this machine as well as if you can program it to use only that specific card.”

So for anyone that has this question. PKI/CAC cards have an issuer and certificates. You can check with companies like Symantec, Verizon, and many others. They offer the service for the certificates that go on the cards. You then need software and cards to provision. I have not found a company that does this and sells them to individuals
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.You can. However, there will be additional expense. A quick Google search for CAC cards for sale will find you the cards. But you will most likely notice that you have to buy them in bulk. Next you will have to have a CAC Reader / Writer. While a lot of CAC Readers do not even advertise that they can write to the card as well these are not always readily available. You will need a working knowledge of certificate management in the OS that you use. The certificate will remain on your computer or Authentication Server, and the Private Certificate will remain on the chip on the card. This will require validated certificates and can be a hassle when expiration dates are reached. Lastly, I believe CAC authentication for the home is cost and time prohibitive, unless using an existing Enterprise Architecture.

It may be a great way to ensure single point secure access to your devices. Typically this is the method used by the Federal Government and large corporations to encrypt access to their enterprise networks. I don't see why they would not be available to the general public and Geek Squad can most likely answer that question.
