• Make sure you don't have the toaster on "Bagel" -- your toaster SHOULD toast both sides of your bread -- if it doesn't toast BOTH SIDES you have a defective product.

• No, this is not normal. If you are using the toaster for wheat bread, cinnamon raisin bread or any other kind of bread, it should toast both sides of the bread.

• Mines toasts both sides. I have not had any problems with it.
