No, they are not removable. It's really not necessary. Simply wipe the plates clean with paper towels after each use. Forms a perfect non-stick surface. No oil or grease needed. Healthy and good.

No, they are not removable. I don't recommend that you buy this either. Mine worked for 1 use

They're not removable. I tried making paninis but the sandwich got pressed thinner on hinge side and the opposite side not so much. Maybe it'll work better for thinner sandwiches like a plain grilled cheese.

You can make an awesome panini - I grilled bagels in the burger fat and added cheese and wow. Sooooo good. You can make easy work of a sourdough panini if you cook the meat first then put it in the sandwich and you’ll have it all done within 10 minutes

No mine is fixed. I love it! It was Cheap! On Sale for less than $20. But the handle broke when it slid across my counter top & hit my stainless steel panel on my samsung infrared stove. The small grease tray fills up fast. Makes everything slippery

no. I just made a grilled sandwich with turkey and cheese and it turned out great. I used thin sliced bread. I think a thicker bread would not work as well as it would toast the bread but not melt the cheese or warm the meat.
