No it has to be plugged in. The cord is pretty long so no need to worry about it as long as a power outlet is nearby.

Must be plugged into the wall so everything gets enough power

The hub can be plugged directly into the laptop without being plugged into an electrical outlet to work. If the laptop is running on battery power, it will drain the battery sooner.
