“Do I have to plug this into an outlet for it to work or can I just connect it to the usb on the computer? I had a Dynex that I connected to the computer, there was no plug into an outlet. I'm not sure if I need to return this one and get a different one.”

It works with or without being pluged in. If you don't plug it will draw power from the source that its USB is plugged into. So if you are using it on a device like a laptop that has a low battery i would plug it into a wall outlet as well to prolong the laptop battery.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes, this unit requires AC Power. The AC Power allows proper charging on the 7 Ports of the Hub for Cell Phones, and other USB Devices. IMHO, powered USB Hubs are much better designed than non-powered. I can say that the power cord is a little bit short for my tastes, and 'may' need a two-prong extension cord, depending on your wall outlet location, or going to a surge strip.

Tech support told me this one NEEDS to be plugged into AC to work. I'm not charging with it. Mouse, keyboard, printer, flash drive. Will this really work without utilizing the AC adapter?
