“Looking for an indoor antenna to get local channels. Was told by Dish to connect it to the back of the Dish Hopper where the little plastic antenna is. Will this work? No sense in paying $12 a month for local channels if this will do the job.”

I live in North NJ and get all local channels and then some. I used to buy the cheaper ones and did not get all local channels.
