I use it on my wood floors and my carpet. Easy to stop the "beater bar" to move to wood floors, although I do use it on wood floors too.

Yes you can turn the brush on and of as needed. I use it on my wood floor and then right into the carpeted living room.

Yes it does. It performs great on both surfaces. It was the brush roll on/off button to add additional cleaning support.

Yes, but I wouldn't rely on as the sole vacuum for carpets.
