• The motor is 12 amp and yes it will be a good vacuum for short hair dogs. I have a Great Pyrenees dog and a Lab and this vacuum picks up everything.

• We have cats - 1 long, 1 short hair. This vacuum cleaned our tight/short weave entery and runner rugs that others vacs couldn't suck the hairs out of. As for the wall to wall high pile carpet, we get a full canister every week. Works good on getting animal hair and dust up.
