• One temp control knob controls both heating sufaces.

• The temperature sensor is on the bottom plate, so that is the controlled surface. The top element comes on with the bottom element. Since the two plates and heating elements are almost identical, they both reach about the same temperature. In mine, the bottom is a little hotter than the top, but that hasn't been a problem.
