First, you don't set it like a VHS exactly. You search for the show or program you want to record, then set the recording options (one-time, record the series, etc.) Second, TiVo is not free - you have to rent a cable card from your cable company and you pay a monthly, annual, or one-time fee to TiVo. The only free TiVo option is their Roamio OTA (antenna). Third, yes it has storage. It holds one terabyte of recordings. Depending on your video quality (SD or HD), you should have hundreds of hours of recordings.

Or buy a TiVo Roamio, some of which include the lifetime service in the price. And yes, if you have the TiVo service you can set the DVR to grab your favorite programs. It will get them from various sources as well - like your connected Netflix or Hulu accounts, as well as from cable/satellite or antenna sources.

You can set up individual recordings, but normally would set up a OnePass to grab new episodes or the like. And yeah, the Bolt comes with either 500GB, or 1TB storage. With the Bolt, you can pay yearly, monthly, or pay once. The OTA Romio model includes service, but only works with ATSC broadcasts, not cable.
