Yes it can replace the Comcast box. You must still pay for the cable card (mine is 7.00 a month) and the Tivo subscription (14.99 a month). But if you want to add more TV's you do not need to pay any more fees, just purchase a Tivo Mini that connects to the main Tivo. Comcast would charge for each TV/cable box.

I believe you can replace Comcast's DVR by using a Cable Card from Comcast instead to keep the cable service. This is inserted somewhere on the TiVo. However, the Cable Card does cost have a monthly fee atttached to it. I have Spectrum, and they charger $2 per month. I would look up online the cost for COmcast's Cable Card. If when you get the TiVo and you plan to get rid of cable, the cable card will not be necessary. You can just use stream apps and channels.
