Yes it has a cleaning cycle built into the programming. There is a manual clean trap if you don't follow the manufacturers instructions and you routinely place heavily soiled food dishes inside. It is incredibly simple and requires no tools pull out the central trap dump it and put it back just like your sink. You have to be a severely poor at scraping your plates for this to be an issue like leaving meat and pasta on plates prior to washing in machine.
