Hi giggles, thank you for your question and interest in Model:SGE53B56UC. The water softener in the unit uses water softening salt for dishwashers. It is specifically made for use in dishwashers as any other kind will ruin the system in the dishwasher. It is made by Finish and can be purchased through our Customer Support Team at 800-944-2904.
