“i have a sony dvd surround system hooked to 65in Samsung thru HD port, if i play dvd can I get sound thru this system instead of Sony system when i want to, if I hook it up to T optical port. Will I be able to choose the system i want to hear sound thru.”

If your TV has a digital optical port then you can connect that way and it doesn't matter what you use as long as the TV is on
