My reasoning stems from the fact that when you turn the NC on or off, the sound also goes out for couple of seconds. When off, the sound quality is HUGELY impacted negatively! So you CAN turn it off, but it's not really worth listening any more.

Please try again later.yes you can but then the sound quality diminishes very slightly becuase the bose have a built in equalizer that makes them sound even better and there design in general makes them very good at noise cancelling so even if you turn it off it will still block quite a bit of sound
