- Answer It has a quiet mode and aware mode which allows the exact thing your speaking about. This is an amazing feature and works when I'm riding the train and when I'm in my office.

- Answer As long as you have Bluetooth enabled on the device you are listening to they automatically connect when you take them out of the box and insert them into your ears. Your phone or iPad etc. must be within a certain number of feet from you.
