“I understand that the right ear piece is the master control for calls and sends the music audio to the left side via Bluetooth therefore it must be on and nearby what I want to know is can the right side be in my pocket while I listen to music in the left”

Thanks for your interest in the SoundSport Free wireless headphones. If the right earbud is kept in your pocket, this may cause an interference in the Bluetooth connection. That sounds like crazyness! This is not 1965 listening to AM radio in mono with a single earbud. They are meant for STEREO so rock them both at the same time!!!
