I have most of my music on an external hard disk. Can I connect it to this speaker and start playing music and can I select what I want to play? null

You first have to pair it with your laptop then select the music from your laptop. The pairing is easy, scan and then select but for most of my music are in my phone and in addition i have radio stations i player.Pairing is equally easy here.

Great Question! You may connect the external drive and then add it to your Bose SoundTouch app so that you will be able to control your playlist.
