They can also be connected through wifi. This should give you connection through your whole home. Hope this helps.

Sorry it took so long for an answer as this was a b-day gift for my wife and I just gave it to her 4 days ago. We have never had a problem with staying connected. Even moving into another room that is close by, it continued to play with no buffering at all. The owners manual states within 30 feet. Don't think we have ever been beyond that range so I won't be to helpful in that area. Delivers excellent sound. Really cool that you can adjust the treble and bass to suit ones ear.
