• Yes, the speakers must be plugged into an outlet and somewhere they can get a good wi-fi signal

• Yes, this is powered by AC only. If you're looking for a speaker with a built in battery, check out Bose's SoundLink line of speakers. Also, you may find the SoundTouch portable at the Bose Outlet stores. The ST portable has been discontinued, but the Bose stores may still have them.
