They are essentially the same, all in one audio devices. This system is more about connecting multiple speakers in different rooms but for just one room audio I'd say you're all set.

You can do without the Wave if you like to listen to Internet radio only (Spotify, Pandora, iHeart, etc.) or have a library of music that you enjoy. Either of the SoundTouch 10, 20 or 30 adds to the experience of the Wave. You can buy one piece at a time and build upon it, depending upon your tastes...
