• No Bose product is true 5.1. They are all digitally enhanced 5.1.

• It does but you need to make sure it is being fed 5.1 sound. I had to change my Xfinity Comcast box to get Surround feed to my TV. Then I had problem with ARC cable connection to my Samsung 4K HDTV. Bose is working on software update to solve Samsung ARC interface problem but no software update yet. See Bose user community web site for details and 18 pages of concerns about Samsung interface. If you have another brand of 5.1 capable TV you may be ok. If running through an audio tuner make sure it has 5.1 capability.
