Hello BoseLover! Thank you for the question. When the first Wave SoundTouch system was released, it was a combination of the Wave Music System III and a pedestal(placed on the bottom) which contained the Wi-Fi adapter module that allowed connection to a wireless network. The new Wave SoundTouch Music System IV has an upgraded appearance and SoundTouch and the Wi-Fi adapter are completely integrated into the radio itself. Hope that helps. Thank you again!
