Hi Whodat, Sound like something above, beneath or behind the center channel is vibrating in the bass region and that additional noise is muffling voices. Some receivers have adjustments that you can make with equalizers or automatic room correction. Other tips include pulling the center channel forward so that it is not sitting back on a shelf. You'd want to make sure that the front of the center channel is not sitting behind the front of the shelf it is sitting on. Generally speaking, you want to get your center channel off of the floor if it happens to be sitting there, or angling it up towards the listening area if you have to locate it lower.
