Not in our case. We use a GFI 20 amp standard outlet. The only issue we have had is not to run the toaster oven AND the microwave at the same time as they are on the same circiut The toaster oven IS powerful so is our microwave so we discovered this minor problem.

It has a 3 prong grounded plug, I use the outlet that's closest to my stove rather than the ones near the sink. Manufacturer suggest you never use an extension cord or any type of surge protector. Plug it straight into the wall outlet.
