Some stores seem to have this machine in stock--so you could check it out in person if that is the case. You could also order it for Store Pickup or delivery and then just return it for a refund if you're not happy with it. There does not appear to be an in-line filter in this machine. It's just a decently large water tank that locks into the machine by its own weight. I personally use water from the Pur on my kitchen faucet (in FL the water is very hard) and the manual recommends descaling every couple of months or so to keep things in good working order.
