• The Brother ADS1200 will require updates. The Brother ADS1200 is compatible with Windows 8.1.

• I don't think the scanner or the hardware itself will require updates. You will need to have the Brother iPrint&Scan software version installed in your pc or laptop running Windows 8.1. • I got this just a few momths ago and haven't had any updates. But then, I don't have any software specific to the scanner. There is the driver, which seemed to load automatically. I am using the Windows Scan app, and Windows 10.
