• For power it has to be plugged into a wall outlet and then will scan wirelessly or through a USB port.

• This item can be plugged into USB. It also can be UNPLUGGED and work for it has an internal battery and internal storage (SD) card so you technically do not need a computer to run it.

• The one I have needs to be plugged into an outlet USB cannot powere it alone. But it talks to your computer via USB or wireless.
