The tray is for both letter and legal size paper. Pull out the tray amd take out paper. Hold it up and look towards the back of the tray inside the bottom a little to the left off center. There is a little button that you push down and it extends the tray further out for legal size. When you put it back in the machine should ask you if you just changed the paper size. Just answer the questions it asks on the display.
