It does lean back . But be aware. My husband a thin man . Not over weight at all . The seat cushion is already broke down after 2 months use . There is a screw sticking thru the right arm padding . You do have to put the chair together , But the arm padding is already assembled . So no fixing the over sized screw that sticks upward into your arm . Beautiful chair but way over priced and the quality is crap . I wish I had not bought this .

But it takes force from your legs to keep it recline, your body weight alone isn’t enough to keep it reclined. Perfect for an office chair but for sitting back and watching TV not so much.
