Yes, you can run Ubuntu Linux on a Raspberry Pi and yes you'll need a MicroSD card for the Pi. Download a Raspberry Pi Ubuntu image from ubunto.com, flash it to the MicroSD card from a PC, put the MicroSD card into the Pi and power it up. Easy.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. You can install any OS that supports ARM processors. I have Ubuntu installed on mine and it’s speed is quick. The storage space is a microSD card on the bottom of the Pi, you can re image it using raspberry pi imager to flash the desired OS to it. You would want a bigger storage SD depending on what you’re doing. If you’re fine with what it comes with(64GB) then I’d say you’re good to just stick with that. On that note, it does have 2x USB 2.0 and 2x USB 3.0 slots so you could attach an external ssd or hdd if you need more storage. I hope this helps!

Storage space is a MicroSD card and/or USB drive (your choice); there is no on-board storage. Make sure if you're using a large USB drive that it is powered separately, i.e. if it isn't a "jump drive" you should use the power adapter that came with it.
