You should always hand wash a chefs knife. Although it can go into a dishwasher its a hardened blade. Bumping around in a dishwaaher with other forks and knives could damage it. Hardened knifes retain their sharpness because they are hardened however hardening causes the metal to be brittle. So always hand wash any quality chefs knife.
