Recommended monthly volume is really addressed to how many copies you will be printing in a month rather than how few. If you regularly exceed the number of print jobs for which the printer is designed, you will likely wear it out and will shorten the life span of that printer. Being a minimal user should not have any ill effect on the printer. You can also save money as a printer designed for occasional use will cost less than an industrial grade printer. As long as you're buying a laser printer, minimal use shouldn't have any ill effects. This is as opposed to an ink jet where the ink cartridges will likely dry out, and have to be replaced, before you ever use them up.
