I believe this is a misconception. Laser printers normally work with InkJet Paper, maybe just not as well. But, when it comes to InkJet Photo paper, Laser printers absolutely will not work with them because of the plastic Gloss, being that Laser printers burn the images and will burn the glossy inkjet paper. But, Laser printers will work with Laser Photo Paper, because they are heat tolerant. You can also get vinyl labels for Laser Printers.
