• A:Answer As far as using different cartridges, I don't have a clue. But thanks for your question as so far I haven't been able to make my brand new Canon printer work yet. My printer is an 8320, so it's not the same model. I've tried many different times and ways but the software always locks up. So It looks like I'll be returning mine shortly. • A:Answer You can hook it up directly to your computer but the cable is not provided. The cable you need has a USB-A (computer) connector on one end and a USB-B (printer) connector on the other. This later one is more square with rounded edges along the bottom. Sorry for late response. Been on vacation.
