I hope someone answered you by now, but the setting is in the camera. You have to extend the display to HDMI it is a setting/configuration. Canon has it defaulted to off.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Today when I was talking to Cannon about this camcorder they told me I would most likely need a video Card. Mst computers come with the HDMI connection but only for output, not input. (I am very user immature nut this is what I was told.)
