Can you transfer cassette content to CDs null

The only output on this cassette player, other than the speaker, is the headphone jack. I have tried connecting the headphone output to a stereo amplifier with very poor results. I expect a preamplifier would be needed to make the headphone output usable for anything other than headphones. To make a cd the sound would have to be digitized via the sound card in a computer. I expect the results of connecting the headphone output to the sound card would produce the same poor results as connecting it to a stereo amplifier.
